The purchase of a ticket is your electronic signature that those registered for the event, have read and agree to act in accordance with OhioSMART's Code of Conduct, the Play Space Rules, and the Photography Rules. We are very excited about this event, as it is very unique in its focus on edge play and taboos! We look forward to hosting you at the event! Just a quick reminder - Summer School: Taboo tickets are non-transferable and there are no refunds after April 15.
- Who is welcome?
Members of Ohio SMART and nonmembers of any gender or sexuality or kink identity, ages 21+.
- Where is the location?
The event is in Cleveland, OH, and specifics will be provided once you purchase your ticket.
- I'm nervous.../This is my first event...
We have all been nervous to step out in this way at some point-- whether staff, presenter, or fellow attendees, so know that you are in good company and that the event has lots of chances for you to socialize with other attendees and make new friends. If you're able, head down to the event early so you can make it to the Newcomer's Orientation!
- Will there be single people?
There will be all sorts of relationships represented by our attendees. Check out our thread on Fetlife for the looking for play threads! https://fetlife.com/groups/155299
- Is it possible to meet people to play with?
Heck, yeah! Check out our "looking for play" threads here: https://fetlife.com/groups/155299
Meeting people During the Event - On Friday night there is a Meet-n-Greet Game/gathering from about 6-7pm - this is friendly social time to find out more about your fellow attendees! Also, while there is a general event armband, there are also colored armbands available in the Registration Area.
• If you are a Top looking - put on a Red wristband.
• If you are a Bottom looking - put on a Blue wristband.
• If you are a Switch looking - Put on a bronze wristband.
• If you are a GLBTQ looking - Put on a Rainbow wristband.
These armbands identify people who are interested in meeting new people who may have complimentary interests. Remember that wearing an armband is only a way to create introductions. It is a fun form of identification and only an invitation for discussion and possible negotiation.
- I want to stay in the host hotel, what is the nightly rate?
Our event hotel is located about 15 min from the event location, and features an indoor pool, and in-suite kitchens. Specifics will be provided once you register. The group rate is $99/night plus taxes.
- How much money should I bring?
That's a great question-- we suggest bringing money for your meals (off-site), as well as for our amazing vendors, but how much you bring depends on what you're in the market for. We also have cash-only silent auctions for awesome donated items, from tickets to other events to fetish gear, to hand-made accessories by crafty local kinksters, and so much more!
- What do I need to do to register for this event?
Simply go here: Summer School: Taboo
- What does my Event Registration cover?
Your registration covers 2 fantastic evening play parties, an exploratorium featuring our diverse national presenters, access to a range of premium vendors, and more than 10 amazing taboo and edge play classes!
- Is the price per person, or per couple?
It is per person and every person must be registered individually under their legal name.
- I want to buy a ticket for my friend, lover, dominant, slave, kitten, babygirl, etc... so they can come. Is that ok?
It is fine, just as long as the attendee info is for the correct person, so make sure you check it before you hit go!
- Will I have to participate?
Well, buying a ticket is all the participation required. Anything else is completely voluntary. Remember, as an adult, you are responsible for your own behavior, and expressing your own limits. Everyone at the event is aware of our Primary rule ~
No means No! (Yes, even at a taboo event!)
- What is a PSM?
A PSM is a designated Play Space Monitor-- someone there to assist in watching to make sure that people and things in the space are safe, and difficulties and concerns are addressed/mitigated.
- What is SSC? What is RACK?
SSC: Safe, Sane, Consensual. This means entering into a kink activity as safely and consciously as possible, while understanding the difference between fantasy & reality, and with a continual emphasis on enthusiastic consent.
RACK: Risk Aware Consensual Kink. This means entering into kink activities with a consenting knowledge of the physical and/or mental risks. This is often applied to things that can be harder to keep in the realm of traditionally "safe" play.
- Is there a Dress Code?
Outside the venue, in the entry area, or anywhere not on site are all vanilla. Once you are past the registration desk, feel free to dress as you please! If you enjoy public nudity, please be sure to bring a towel or something similar to lay on any furniture you sit on.
- What if I have no experience?
Even this edge play event is a good place for you, since it is focused on educating people about some very specific edgy or taboo kink activities. And remember, attending a taboo event doesn't mean you have to participate in any of the taboos.
- What If I have lots of experience?
That's fantastic! You'll be able to see some different topics that aren't often presented, and some different perspectives on things you might be familiar with. There is always room for learning more!
- Are there any restaurants around?
There are lots of restaurants within 10-15 minute drive of the venue. We do encourage you to purchase a parking pass for $10 so that parking at the venue is easier, as it comes with in and out privileges and covers both Friday and Saturday.
- I smoke – is this a problem?
We simply ask that you smoke in designated outdoor areas and properly disposes of butts/ashes. If you are a cigar smoker, keep an eye out for cigar socials hosted by members of the community!

We use the universal safewords of "RED" or "SAFEWORD". If you and your play partner have a special arrangement and are planning to explore edges of play that one of you may need to safeword, please let the PSMs on shift know what that safeword is, so that they can assist in keeping your scene safe and fun.
