OhioSMART

One of Ohio's longest-running BDSM education organizations, OhioSMART was founded in 1995, and hosts munches, demos, play parties and more, every month!  Affordable and open to people of all genders, D/s types, sexual orientations, races, and ages 21+ (some events 19+)... Come join us!

Rules

We would like everyone to have a safe and comfortable experience. For the safety and protection of everyone we have developed a few rules to govern our conduct. These rules aren't meant to be oppressive. We just want to ensure that we all come into the play party with similar understandings and expectations.

Expectation of Attendees

Common sense policy: All OhioSMART rules, policies and guidelines apply to all members or persons in attendance at any and all OhioSMART events. All OhioSMART rules, policies and guidelines further extend to online activity including but not limited to Fetlife and the OhioSMART website.

Age & Agreement

OhioSMART members must be at least 21 years old, must show proof of age and agree to and follow all rules of OhioSMART. I agree that I am not required to register in any state as a sex offender and I have never been convicted of any sexual related felony.

Confidentiality

All information about identities and activities of OhioSMART participants is held in strict confidence by all participants, including but not limited to names, telephone numbers, addresses and all personal information. Discretion Policy: If a person or persons knowingly or unknowingly jeopardize the safety or sanctity of OhioSMART, its members, or events, the offending person(s) may be immediately ejected from any event at the sole discretion of the OhioSMART board members present. The OhioSMART board may take additional action, up to and including permanent ban from OhioSMART events or activities, in accordance with the bylaws.

Consensuality

All activities and discussions at OhioSMART events are agreed upon by all parties involved and all participants must be able to consent. All participants will respect as final the decision of anyone to not participate in any activity. Be aware that all are also responsible for communicating personal preferences and boundaries to others. Do not exceed your personal limits or that of another. And stop any activity immediately if requested by another participant, an OhioSMART board member, or a Play Space Monitor.

Drugs & Alcohol

No illegal drugs or alcoholic beverages are allowed at any OhioSMART event. No member or guest shall be under the influence of any illegal drug or alcoholic beverage while on the premises of an OhioSMART event or they will be asked to leave at the discretion of the Board.

Cameras

At no time may participants use cameras or recording devices at any OhioSMART event. THIS INCLUDES CELL PHONES and ELECTRONIC DE! The official SMART phone may be available for pictures on request, but will not photograph anyone who has not explicitly consented to being included.

Safety

All activities at an OhioSMART event must be performed in a safe, consensual fashion. The judgment of the Board and Play Space Monitors will be adhered to implicitly.

Solicitation

No participant may solicit or request services for monetary consideration or favors of any kind, sexual or non-sexual.

Vending

No participant may vend or offer items for monetary value during any play party or meeting without express permission of the Board

Knowledge

Read the organization’s bylaws (located on the Fetlife page or available via email) to maintain knowledge of what our organization is about and an understating of how it is run and what your rights as a member are.

Commitment

Volunteer at events throughout the year (bring food, do a door shift, a PSM shift, help tear down at the end of events and take out trash, clean up after oneself throughout any event) We are a self-run community and it takes all members pitching in to do their part for us to continue what we do.

Dungeon Rules

Group Activities-- Special Note

Special note: Group activities may be exempt from time limits with pre-approval, as are official SMART demos or coordinated activities. There may also be occasional special accommodations made for certain demo topics, that apply ONLY to the demo; announcements will be made regarding this on a case by case basis.

Scenes

Please help keep everyone safe by maintaining your situational awareness when choosing a location for your scene, make sure you have room to swing that flogger or whip without hitting someone on the backswing. Bystanders: make sure you don't get too close to scenes in progress.

If you're doing electrical play, or using gear that requires electricity, make sure you're near an outlet so that the cord isn't a trip hazard.

Please help keep everyone safe by practicing good hygiene (this applies to any bodily fluids you and the gear may come into contact with).

SMART encourages many forms of play at all levels of intensity. If you're concerned that some might be alarmed by your scene (e.g. if it might appear non-consensual), please let a PSM know so that they can help make sure you aren't interrupted. Likewise, if your scene is likely to be especially loud or otherwise disruptive, it's courteous to let a PSM know If you're not sure if something is allowed, please ask first before doing it!

Please keep your scene limited to ONE HOUR, unless you will have multiple bottoms. Please still be mindful that other people will likely be waiting to use that same piece of equipment, so multiple bottoms doesn't mean an hour per bottom; be respectful of the other members wanting to scene.

There is to be ABSOLUTELY NO RESERVING OF EQUIPMENT!!!!!!!! It's ok to put your play gear near the equipment you want to use, but it should not inhibit someone else playing, if you are socializing for a while before playing. You should not leave your gear in the way of equipment any longer than it takes you to get a table to put it on. If you are not ready to start the scene, your gear needs to be unobtrusively stashed.

Toys And Equipment

Do not use another guest’s toys without permission.

There are toys available for use in various locations throughout the play space. When you are finished playing clean and return/remove the toys you have used. There are cleaning stations in every room.

Please do NOT move furniture without board approval, to ensure we are not damaging equipment, flooring, etc.

When you are finished with your scene, clean and wipe down the equipment with sanitizing solution and paper towels. Be sure to dispose of the paper towels properly. No one should have to clean up after you.

  • Return any toys borrowed to their proper place.
  • Return any table or chairs used to the storage area.
  • If a piece of equipment is damaged or gets damaged, notify a PSM on duty immediately.

Activities

The following activities are NEVER allowed at any OhioSMART events:

  • Gun Play
  • Cuttings/Blood Play
  • Piss/Scat/Vomit

We're not judging, just please leave these types of play at home!

NO Penetration (NO Fingers, NO Toys, NO KIDDING) at our regular events. The exception: our Members' Only parties, hosted 4-5 times a year, and our Members' Only Holiday Party. Membership has its rewards!

These activities are ONLY allowed only in designated areas, and special rules apply:

  • Needle play
  • Wax play
  • Fire Play

See "Special Rules" for details

Whatever you do, any body fluids that are expelled must be controlled.

NUDITY

We appreciate public nudity, and ask that if you aren't wearing underwear, that you please sit on a towel.

Special Rules

Diaper Play

While it is permitted to wear a diaper and engage in some aspects of diaper play, for hygiene reasons, we cannot allow soiling of diapers in the space.

  • Set up away from curtains and other for hazards, using stable surfaces for equipment.
  • You are required to bring your own fire extinguisher and wet towels. We reserve the right to intervene if safety equipment is not present!
  • No rope or other forms of bondage may be used in conjunction with fire play!

WAX PLAY

  • If you are using candles or other flames, you must also follow our fire play rules.
  • Crock pots and other wax supplies must be set up on level surfaces only.
  • You are responsible for protecting the furniture, floor, and other surfaces at the space.
  • You must supply your own tarps and clean up all wax when finished.

NEEDLE PLAY

  • Gloves are required for all needle play tops.
  • You must bring your own sharps containers and gloves.
  • All equipment used (tables, furniture, etc) must be covered, or disinfected before and after scenes.
  • Cross contamination of other play surfaces and people must be avoided.
  • Don't move around the space with needles in. If you must go to the bathroom, or want to see a mirror, please alert a PSM for assistance to ensure everyone's safety. Avoid cross-contamination: if there might be blood on your glove, change your glove before touching furniture or a door handle.
  • No blood play, blood cupping, cuttings, zippers, or industrial (not medical) staplers. We understand that needle play can involve blood, but excessive, intentional bleeding or activity that spreads blood around our space is not permitted.
  • Fluids (blood or anything else) must be controlled and cleaned up properly.
  • IMPACT PLAY

    • You are responsible for setting up your scene in a location that allows the safest possible range of movement for the type of impact you plan to do.
    • The Board and PSM reserve the right to limit play with whips depending on space constraints.
    • Please ask a PSM before using any whips over 4' in length.
    • If your impact scene causes broken skin, you should stop play to ensure that blood does not get aerosolized.
    • Please use proper precautions if using implements on multiple people (i.e. changing crackers on whips between bottoms).

    KNIFE PLAY

    • You are responsible for cleaning knives before and after. Intentional cutting is not allowed. Unintentional cuts should be properly cared for via first aid and any contaminated equipment disinfected. Please select a location where you will not be bumped or otherwise put at risk by passers-by. If you aren't sure where to go, check with a PSM first.

    Safety

First aid materials are available from the PSMs. We will also have several scene aware nurses available onsite. If you have special needs, please let the PSMs know in advance.

The OhioSMART Universal safe word is: RED. If this used by anyone in the scene, all participants in the scene will IMMEDIATELY stop and the PSM and Staff will govern any discussions.

    Play Space Monitors

The Play Space Monitors (PSM) will be clearly identifiable.

The goal of the PSMs is to make our party a great event, not to shut down scenes, but to enhance them. However, the PSMs reserve the right to stop any scene that they feel is unsafe, non-consensual, or inappropriate for this venue.

Do not hesitate to discuss any questions or concerns that you have with them. Feel free to make comments, ask question, or ask for instruction from them on any equipment or scenes.

To avoid any misunderstanding about safety, notify PSMs if your scene could be considered “intense” or “unusual”. If you are planning a loud or extreme scene, please inform a PSM BEFORE you begin.

If you are interested in volunteering for a PSM shift check out our  Play Space Monitor Guide

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
